artist statement
This work is representative of my former life. Growing up on a sizeable Texas ranch, it was just home, and each day’s events were the way things were done at home. A few decades back I began sketching some of the facilities, livestock and people working with me. However, I really didn’t come to appreciate how fortunate I was until later in my career when my path led me to teach natural horsemanship to the public as a part of my ranch management duties. In the process of teaching the importance of establishing good communication between people and their horses, the greatness of my good fortune to have lived this life became very clear.

So, upon my retirement from the ranching and horse training industry, I once again became a student. Drawing had always been another passion of mine, but there was a lot I didn’t know. The desire to recreate events I’ve witnessed over the last five decades is very important to me and to illustrate the variety of situations in the daily lives of people living and working in the western culture of this country.

My art is flat, two-dimensional drawing.

The materials I employ are white heavy stock paper, black ink, graphite, carbon and charcoal. In order to create a specific effect, watercolor, Prisma color pencils and colored ink are occasionally used as well.

My audience is one consisting of those who appreciate the subject matter. They perhaps have a background, or history in our western culture, or just have the desire to know more about it.

Daniel Clark is an artist with a focus on contempary and historical western art.  His work has been exibited at the Gallery of Western Art located in Kahuku, Hawaii, East Central College located in Union, Missouri, and at the University of Missouri located in Saint Louis, Missouri. His work is intended to be shown at Bermuda Gallery in Ferguson, Missouri later in 2020.

He received his Associates of Fine Arts from East Central College, and his Bachelor of Fine Arts will be forthcomming from the University Of Missouri in May, 2020. He is accepted and registered for the Master of Arts Program at Fontbonne University beginning in the Fall, 2020.

Daniel has done numerous art projects promoting equine events in Missouri, Alabama and Colorado.
