artist statement
I see art as a way to present images that make us as artists feel fulfilled, and viewers feel something. Whether it is something good or something bad is out of my hands. I am currently attempting to build a body of work inspired by my own writing alongside building on a body dedicated to my own take on naturalistic surrealism. I simply want to enjoy making art. In my writing, I have complex characters that have intricate stories and fascets that make them who they are. Despite that existing source material, I want the related artwork to be strong enough to not need context. I want the viewer to feel connected and interested in it without needing to read the story. Outside of the story-related art, my surrealism series is where I have the most freedom.

I see art as a way to present images that make us as artists feel fulfilled, and viewers feel something. Whether it is something good or something bad is out of my hands. I am currently attempting to build a body of work inspired by my own writing alongside building on a series dedicated to my own take on naturalistic surrealism. I want to enjoy making art above everything. I enjoy depicting and stylizing natural elements in a way that is exciting for me to create and (hopefully) for the viewer to experience. Art should be fun and that has always been my focus: making art an interesting and exciting experience.

bio
Cynthia was born in Winterhaven, Florida. She was carefree, living happily in the sun. For reasons unknown, she moved to Wisconsin. This began a life of homelessness and reduced joy that was completely obliterated upon moving to St. Louis, Missouri. The happiness she lost was translated into art that carried themes of chaos, mental illness, and mayhem. The joy returned briefly upon moving alone to Chicago, just to be ripped away by returning to St. Louis once more. She creates because if she stops, she is sure life will cease to have meaning. Not for lack of trying, her life continues and she continues to create equally if not more chaotic, mayhem-filled artwork.
