artist statement 
Kai is an artist from St. Louis, Missouri. While they are primarily a digital artist, they decided to focus on black and white illustrations of Korean folktales to reconnect with their cultural identity and later a secondary project to showcase their digital works. For their black and white illustrations, they chose to create images of story’s they greatly loved as well as story’s they found interesting to illustrate. For their digital works Kai chose to focus on the process of creation so show case the steps they take to create their digital art works.

Kai Perry is a 23-year-old from Saint Louis, Missouri. During their time at UMSL they have gained an interest in digital art as well as printmaking. As of now Kai mostly works with digital art as well as silk screen and combines the two with each other for their work. Kai’s main themes for their works are Korean folktales, hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), their original characters, and fantasy settings.
